Hosting

Prickly Hedgehog hosting is aimed at charities such as IAM groups because it is run on a "covering costs" basis.  We have created several sites for IAM groups we've been members of as well as other organisations.

Why should I have my own website?

A website makes you look more professional and lets the public look for what you offer easily, increasing the likelihood they will use your services.

Having your own domain name means your committee can have email aliases for each post e.g. secretary@yourdomain.org.uk which delivers the mail to their normal email account.  This means you can publicise the post's address and don't need to worry about changing your adverts if the person doing it changes.

What do I get?

Our standard package gives you 250MB disk space and 2.5Gb of bandwidth per month for just £40 per year, including a .org.uk or .co.uk domain name.  From experience this is generally suitable for IAM group sites but if it does not match your requirements we are happy to discuss alternatives.  Also included are mailing lists, mail forwarding, FTP accounts, MySQL databases, and statistics of your site's usage.

You can control all of the site content yourself through your control panel either by creating the pages offline using your own system and uploading them, or by using a content management system (CMS).  Cpanel allows easy installation from a choice of CMSs or we can install silverstripe (used to create this site) with your choice of theme. Whether you need assistance with the initial setup of your account or ongoing support we will be happy to help you, there are no extra costs.
